A message from Ms. Allen
I started as the school social worker at Wood Dale Junior High in 2005. In the past decade, I have worked with the students, staff, and parents of the junior high to best support the social emotional needs of our students. In the past few years, I have seen a rise in the number of students engaging in self-injurious behavior. This behavior has not only increased locally but nationally. You may have seen examples of self-injury in recent movies, heard about it in music, or seen images on the internet. It is estimated that 90 percent of people who engage in self-injury begin during their teen or pre-adolescent years.
Being aware and educated about self-injury is important for all parents of teenagers. To learn more about what self-injury is and what you can do if you have concerns about your child, please view the document below for further information and resources. You can also contact me, Jenny Allen, at 630-766-6210.
Thank you,
Jenny Allen, LCSW
