September 7th Grade Newsletter
Seventh graders are off to a great start this school year! In Language Arts, they are focusing on explaining how the story elements work together to affect the story. Students have read a funny story about kindergarten and an inspiring story about a surgeon. In Social Studies, students are exploring how history shapes people and the future. In Social Studies students will be exploring how a once thriving relationship between Great Britain and the colonies turns bad as taxation takes a hold of the colonies and the idea of independence starts to take shape In math, our students started the year with problem based learning. They were given a picture (see the attachment below) and had to create their own math question involving the book and measurement. Next, they had to solve it using appropriate math tools and computation skills, with their teams. Ask your child what their question was and how they came up with their answer! Great problem solving, models and strategies. In Science students are studying ecosystems and will be building their own. This school year, our focus is "what mark are you leaving?" We will be focusing on encouraging our students to leave a positive footprint in their lives. Additionally, this month there is a school-wide focus on self-awareness that includes being a positive person as well as being prepared. Please help up by ensuring that your child's Chromebook is charged to 100% every night.
