In 8th grade, we are working on building connections with students. The school year has started with students and staff getting to know each other. In advisory, students have been creating Facebook pages to get to know one another. We hope to build a positive community within our classrooms.
In Language Arts, the students have been looking back at their past. They have created timelines displaying positive and negative events in their life. We use this activity to help get to know the students. This again contributes to our positive classroom environment. We will also be using these timelines as a brainstorming activity for writing a personal narrative. In the upcoming weeks, students will be drafting and revising a personal narrative on one event from their timelines. We encourage parents to ask their child about his or her essay.
